For the second straight season, the Grand Valley State Women’s Basketball team hosted the opening weekend of NCAA Tournament play as the Midwest Regional went through Allendale this past weekend with three games in four days.
The Laker Women were seeking their third Elite Eight appearance under head coach Mike Williams while looking to punch their ticket to Pittsburgh for the final week of the season.
It wasn’t easy, but the Laker Women were able to collect three more victories to win the Midwest Regional title and punch their ticket to the Steel City next week.
Now, the GVSU Women find themselves in the Elite Eight and look to collect three more victories in seeking their second National Championship in program history (2005-06).
After re-seeding was completed amongst the regional champions, the Laker Women were slotted as the top seed in the final eight, and below is what the remaining NCAA Tournament schedule looks like for next week from the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:

– Monday, March 24th vs. Gannon Golden Knights (28-6, 16-4 PSAC) – 6 pm *ELITE EIGHT*
– Wednesday, March 26th vs. #4 Pittsburg State/#5 Lubbock Christian Winner – 8:30 pm *FINAL FOUR – IF NECESSARY*
– Friday, March 28th at 7 pm *NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP – IF NECESSARY*
