“There’s No Place Like Pittsburgh”: GVSU Women’s Basketball advances to National Championship Game following Final Four win over Pittsburg State

For the second time in program history, the Grand Valley State Women’s Basketball team is headed to the National Championship Game as the Laker Women were able to hold off a second half charge from the Pittsburg State (Kansas) Gorillas and muscle their way to a 68-61 Final Four victory on Wednesday night in downtown Pittsburgh.

The first time the GVSU Women’s Basketball program made the National Championship was back during the 2005-06 season when they took the trip down to Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas for the Elite Eight and eventually beat American International College in the National Championship Game by a 58-52 final.

Now, this season’s GVSU Women’s hoops squad gets set for a Friday night National Championship Game bout against the California State Dominguez Hills Toros, who are making their first-ever title game appearance in program history, and will mark the first all-time meeting between these two programs.

Live coverage from the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in downtown Pittsburgh begins at 6:45 pm on Thunder 107.3 (107.3 AM and thunder1073.com), The Ticket West Michigan (106.1 FM, 1340 AM, and theticketmi.com), and Classic Hits 98.3 WLCS (98.3 FM and 983wlcs.com).
